When did I get into showjumping and why did I choose the discipline?
After 4 years of eventing I purchased a Warmblood and switched to showjumping which he was more suited to. Showjumping is just you (the rider), your horse and the course. The judges do not have a subjective opinion and the result is up to the horse and rider alone. You either jump well or you don’t. This is what I appreciate the most about jumping - you can always improve on yourself and your horses.

Sponsors
I would like to thank Prydes Easi Feed and Gala Equine for their support in my riding. It certainly helps knowing that there are companies out there that help riders like myself achieve their best.

I started my competition career in the hack arena, but all the while really wanting to showjump like my mum but I was always too young or too little. Showjumping has always been a passion since I was very young, I used to pretend I was a horse and canter around the coffee table jumping books!

Sponsors:
I would like to thank my sponsors that get me and my horses from show to show looking and feeling so well. Animo Italia, One Black Horse NZ, Kentucky Equine Research and of course my family at Glen Haven Park.

Rider Profile: Billy Raymont

Name: Billy Raymont

Location: Cooroy, Sunshine Coast QLD

What you need to know:

Billy Raymont is a man that needs no introduction to the Australian showjumping community. Having ridden all of his life, he has risen through the ranks of the show jumping world and is considered to be one of Australia's premier riders. His results are too numerous to mention, and include many state and national titles over the years. Billy is located on the Sunshine Coast, and when he's not travelling with his team of jumpers, he is in hot demand as a coach. He is hard yet effective with his students, and is very adaptable to different riders and horses.

Billy's current World Cup mount is his black thoroughbred gelding, Stardom (pictured above). Stardom is an incredibly scopey horse, and is a great spectacle to watch in the world cup classes. Even on the big tracks, this horse clears everything by a mile! He is also very smart, which proves very handy in the jump off (which is almost always in)- in fact, he almost thrives under pressure. True to his name, Stardom is Billy's star- he is an absolutely fine tuned athlete, and he knows it!

Another of Billy's mounts is his warmblood stallion, Kalandro. This gorgeous horse is a rising star, and is currently competing Mini Prix with the aim to jump to World Cup classes soon. Being a stallion, Kalandro also has an exciting future as a super performance horse sire. His ability coupled with his good looks and lovely personality will surely be very sought after. So look out for this horse in the future- he's got a great jump and a super brain to boot!

Billy also has many other exciting youngsters in his barn, and is constantly surprising the show jumping world with the quality of horses he has. Despite his success, he is very down to earth, and is a genuine horse man. He knows how to get the best out of each horse, and how to transfer that to the riders he coaches. There is no doubt that Billy's name will be around for a long time to come!

Something you may not know:

On the rare occassion that Billy isn't in his truck, driving around the countryside with his horses, you can find him at the kart track. It seems Billy is an all round adrenaline junkie, with racing karts a lesser known passion of his. Billy has owned many karts over the years, but his current 'mount' is a Rotax kart.
